Jonny Harris is a Canadian actor, comedian, writer, and producer best known for playing Constable George Crabtree on Murdoch Mysteries and for hosting CBC’s award-winning series Still Standing. Born and raised in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, he has built a career that bridges stand-up comedy, scripted television, and heartfelt factual entertainment.
Jonny Harris (Jonathan Harris) was born in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. He gained experience performing for several summers at the Rising Tide Theatre Festival in Trinity Bay, building a foundation in character work and storytelling on stage.
Jonny emerged on the national comedy scene with appearances at major festivals, including the Halifax Comedy Festival, Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and Montreal’s Just for Laughs, as well as CBC Radio’s The Debaters.
His one-man show, Out of the Bog, and his stand-up special for Comedy Now! helped establish his reputation, with the latter earning a Canadian Screen Award nomination.
Jonny has been a key cast member of CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries, on which he plays Constable George Crabtree, a fan-favorite role that has brought him Gemini and Canadian Screen Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Dramatic Series.
Earlier, he contributed as both performer and writer on Mary Walsh’s Hatching, Matching and Dispatching and worked as a staff writer on the satirical news series This Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Since 2015, Jonny has served as host, writer, and producer of CBC’s Still Standing, a hybrid comedy–reality series in which he visits struggling small towns across Canada and crafts a stand-up set drawn from residents’ experiences.
For Still Standing, he has won multiple Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Host in a Factual Program or Series and awards for Best Writing in a Factual Series.
On film, Jonny has appeared in Canadian projects such as Young Triffie’s Been Made Away With, Grown Up Movie Star (which screened at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival), Moving Day, and other independent features.
Now based in Toronto, he continues to balance his work on Murdoch Mysteries with ongoing seasons of Still Standing, maintaining a national profile as one of Canada’s most recognizable comedic storytellers.
In 2020, he married Kaitlin Kozell. In his rare spare time, Jonny enjoys playing guitar.
