Adrian Grenier clears the air about not appearing in the upcoming Devil Wears Prada 2 in a new Starbucks ad.
Grenier, who played Andy Sachs' (Anne Hathaway) somewhat controversial boyfriend Nate in the original film, says he holds no hard feelings about being left out of the highly anticipated sequel.
In the commercial for Starbucks’ Energy Refresher drinks, Grenier addresses the omission directly: “You might have seen the headlines… I wasn’t asked to be part of a certain sequel,” he says to the camera. “But I’m good. Really. It’s all good energy.” The shot widens to show Grenier at a Starbucks counter as a slightly confused barista hands him the new drink.
He adds with a grin, “Okay, so he wasn’t perfect… Let’s leave Nate in 2006 and keep this good energy going,” glibly adding, “I mean, if they call, I’m free.” The ad features a card promoting The Devil Wears Prada 2 at the end.
Earlier this year, Grenier told news outlet Page Six, “Obviously, it was disappointing that I didn’t get the call to be in the sequel. But I also understand there was some backlash against Nate, the character, so that might have something to do with it.”
He also acknowledged Nate’s polarizing reputation: “I have to stand up for my character. If Nate is actually the devil in The Devil Wears Prada, I’d like to see what his character does next—maybe in a spinoff movie.”
