Heated Rivalry set a record at the Canadian Screen Awards this weekend, taking home top honors -- including Best Drama Series and Best Lead Performer for Hudson Williams. The series capped an outstanding awards run and finished its debut season with 16 wins overall.
Another major winner was the CBC/Netflix comedy North of North, which won best comedy series and best lead performer for Anna Lambe. The Nunavut-shot series had already picked up seven awards on Saturday and finished the weekend with nine wins.
The big screen comedy Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie claimed the night's top film prizes, including best motion picture, beating out competitors including R.T. Thorne's 40 Acres. Toronto-born musician Jay McCarrol won best leading performance for the film, while Matt Johnson earned best supporting performance in a comedy film.
Sunday’s ceremony, hosted by Andrew Phung, also included major tributes and special moments, including Mike Myers receiving the Icon Award for his contributions to film and television. The night also featured an emotional In Memoriam segment honoring Catherine O’Hara, highlighted by a tribute from her longtime collaborator Eugene Levy. ~ Megan Parsons
