Demon Slayer frightens off competition at weekend box office

Top 5 movies at weekend box officeFour out of the top five movies were new ones that debuted Friday, something that hasn't occurred for over nine years, since April 2016. Check below to find out which movies made the cut.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, about a young man who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister was turned into a demon, topped the weekend with a take of $70 million, the biggest opening for an anime film at the North American box office.

The Conjuring: Last Rites starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga held onto second place, earning an extra $26.1 million for a two-week total of $131.1 million.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the last film of the beloved series set in England with a large cast of characters debuted in third place, earning $18.1 million.

The Long Walk, a thriller about 100 boys in a competition who are forced to walk or be shot to death until only one of them is left, debuted in fourth place, earning $11.5 million.

Rounding out the top five was the 30th anniversary re-release of the animated hit Toy Story, which took in $3.5 million.
