Disney have announced plans for a stage production based on the 2013 blockbuster, which will open in the prestigious New York theater district in spring 2018 after a stint at an as-yet disclosed venue in summer 2017.

Golden Globe Award and two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Timbers - who was behind the Broadway show Peter and the Starcatcher - will serve as the production's director, while Tony winner Peter Darling will serve as choreographer.

A number of creatives from the movie will be working on the musical, including writer Jennifer Lee and composers Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

Asked about the possibility, she said: "Yes! Sure! Absolutely! It was such a dream of mine to be in the Disney family and become an animated queen.''

Frozen is the highest-grossing animated movie in history, earning almost $1.3 billion at the global box office.

It won two Oscars, for both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, for "Let It Go."
