Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd to reunite on Broadway

Paul Rudd and Julia RobertsJulia Roberts and Paul Rudd, who starred together in the 2006 Broadway production Three Days of Rain but have never co-starred in a film, will reunite on Broadway in early 2027 in a revival of the comedy Small Mouth Sounds.

As the title suggests, the play features minimal dialogue — it takes place at a silent retreat where six people from the city try to find ways to connect without speaking, in an effort to quiet their minds. However, Rudd's character, Ned, does have several lines as he recounts the events that led him to seek the silent retreat. Roberts has been cast as Joan, a teary lesbian. Sarah Paulson, Greta Lee, Martin Freeman and Isaac Powell will also star in the production.

This marks Roberts' second Broadway appearance and Rudd's sixth. He made his Broadway debut in 1997 in the drama The Last Night of Ballyhoo and his fifth appearance was in the 2012 play Grace, in which he starred alongside Michael Shannon and Ed Asner.

Small Mouth Sounds begins previews on February 18, 2027 at Broadway’s Ethel Barrymore Theatre, with opening night scheduled for March 18, 2027. ~Alexandra Heilbron
