Exactly 25 years after their nasty split, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid are finally back on good terms and their son Jack Quaid may be the reason why.
A source says the former couple, whose relationship remained notably strained following their 2001 divorce, had long struggled to move past the bitterness of their split. “Dennis and Meg had an extremely chilly relationship for years,” the insider explained to In Touch. “The resentment never really went away.”
According to The Daily Telegraph, both actors attended Jack’s wedding to his The Boys co-star Claudia Doumit in Australia on April 18. The family moment appears to have softened old tensions.
“They’re back on speaking terms,” the source says, noting that the pair can now be civil with one another, especially as they look ahead to the possibility of becoming grandparents.
The shift is significant considering their rough history. When Meg and Dennis separated in 2000, her relationship with Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe dominated headlines. Meg later revealed there was more to the story, saying her marriage had already been deeply troubled.
In the years that followed, friends and colleagues often felt forced to choose sides, while Jack was left navigating the divide between his parents.
Still, Jack never gave up hope. According to the source, his steady, balanced approach to maintaining relationships with both parents ultimately helped bridge the gap. As he enters a new chapter of his own life, that effort appears to have paid off. ~Megan Parsons
