Megan Thee Stallion in Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Audiences at Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Broadway got more than they anticipated Tuesday evening. The highly anticipated milestone performance for Megan Thee Stallion took a worrying turn when she abruptly fell ill to an unknown medical issue during the show and had to be rushed to a New York City hospital.

Fans were left confused when the show suddenly stopped and the star did not return. A correspondent for the radio show The Breakfast Club was in the audience and took to X to share her experience, writing: “They just stopped Moulin Rouge! mid-show, apologized to the audience, and said, ‘Stay inside and seated.’ I asked security if we were safe — they told us, ‘For now, we’ll update you if anything changes.’”

The Grammy Award-winning rapper made her Broadway debut just a week earlier in the role of "Jess Zidler" at New York’s Al Hirschfeld Theatre. She had expressed excitement about joining the famed production, saying in a February 26 statement, “Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honor. I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively, and theater is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.”

She was expected to conclude her run on May 17. However, it now appears the engagement may be cut short, as she has cancelled upcoming performances following the incident.

The cause of her illness remains unknown. Her representative said in a statement, “During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.” ~Megan Parsons
