The Mandalorian and Grogu promises adventure - movie review

Published By Tribute on May 20, 2026

Continuing the storyline from the hit Disney+ TV show The Mandalorian, the Star Wars franchise returns to the big screen after a seven-year absence with a fun, family-friendly ride: Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu. The action scenes are bigger, the adventures are longer and the bond between the bounty hunter and his adopted son remains stronger than ever.

The movie picks up from the third season of the TV series, which ended with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) agreeing to work for the New Republic to take down the remaining Imperial warlords. New Republic's Colonel Ward (Sigourney Weaver) requested Din Djarin to bring in the late Jabba the Hutt's son, Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White), at the request of Jabba's twin cousins, which only leads the duo to find more adventures and dangers lurking in various parts of the galaxy.

The things that fans loved about the show are dialed up and made bigger. The production design of this film is breathtaking and fans will appreciate the numerous tributes to Star Wars lore. The use of stop motion photography really brought a connection to the previous Star Wars films. The scenes featuring Grogu and the hilarious Anzellans were an absolute highlight of the film.

The Mandalorian and Grogu is an out-of-this-world summer movie that is a full cinematic journey, filled with action-packed scenes, humor and plenty of adorable Grogu moments. The film is exactly what you want out of a summer blockbuster. ~Joanne Chu-Fook
