Phoebe Dynevor has finally shared why she hasn’t appeared in Bridgerton since season two. The actress, who led the highly successful first season of the Netflix series as Daphne Bridgerton, explained her character’s continued absence in a recent interview, and her comments surprised many.
“I just want to say I have not received a call,” Phoebe said. “And when I get that call, I will be there if I can.”
This comes after Phoebe’s season one romantic co-lead, Regé-Jean Page, made it clear he does not see himself returning to the series. In 2021, after choosing not to return for the second season, Page said, “It felt like a limited series. I get to come in, I get to contribute my bit, and then the Bridgerton family rolls on.”
Phoebe, however, feels differently and seems hopeful about the opportunity to return.
“When the first season came out, they didn't know what they needed to put in place,” Phoebe added. “So we were like the ones that got away, I think, in a certain way. But I can only speak for myself — I would always come back if I was asked.”
She may have been referring to Bridgerton: Season 2 co-leads Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey, who have continued to make appearances in the ongoing series. Ashley commented on how difficult it was, particularly for Bailey, to film recent seasons: “He flew between Toronto and London back and forth whilst he was filming Wicked," she said, adding that they continue to make time for the series out of loyalty.
Phoebe finished the interview reflecting on her experience and how she will always remain grateful for the opportunities the breakout role provided. “Suddenly I realized that I had these opportunities to play lots of different women,” she said. “And it's all I'd ever wanted in my career.”
Phoebe still might get her chance to return as Daphne, since Bridgerton isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Seasons 5 and 6 have already been greenlit by Netflix. Click here to watch the trailer for the fourth season of Bridgerton, which came out earlier this year. ~Megan Parsons
