Alana Haim was born and raised in Los Angeles. Both her parents loved music and introduced Alana and her two sisters to it from a young age. In 2007, the sisters formed the band Haim, releasing their first EP Forever in 2012.
The group released their debut studio album, Days Are Gone, in September 2013. It was a commercial success, and they later appeared as musical guests on Saturday Night Live. In June 2020, they released their third album, Women in Music, Pt. III, which was nominated for Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, while the single “The Steps” earned a nomination for Best Rock Performance. The band was an opening act on multiple shows of the US leg of Swift's The Eras Tour in 2023. In the same year, they were featured on the Barbie soundtrack with their single "Home."
Alana made her acting debut starring in Licorice Pizza (2021), directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. She starred opposite Cooper Hoffman, the son of Anderson’s late collaborator Philip Seymour Hoffman. She next appeared alongside Josh O’Corror in the heist film The Mastermind, which premiered in competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2025. Later that year, she appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar-winning One Battle After Another. In 2026 she played a supporting role in The Drama, alongside Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
