Just excruciatingly boring.
This was unlike any movie I've seen! Absolutely not what I expected, I thought I was going to see another boring space movie but no. It is long but every minute is worth it. Ryan Gosling was the perfect casting choice, he did an outstanding job. It was hilarious, mind opening, painful, joyful - most entertaining movie I've seen since "Inglorious Bastards". I would never want to interact with the people who gave this negative reviews! Hahaha. The acoustics in their head must be amazing..
Music was good but it's not a CD. As a movie this stunk.
Not as good as the Martian, but still entertaining and thought provoking.
Who is financing the making of these dud movies? This movie was an actual waste of time I will never get back. We should of left the theatre like other couples did…
Too confusing.
I'm glad that i watched this movie on a theatre screen rather than streaming it. Ryan can play both serious and funny and his new buddy added to the enjoyment. Good film
What can I say. A film that all ages can enjoy.
I loved this movie. It's one of the few that shows a belief in humanity. It shows what we can do if we put one another first. And it shows how a flawed human can save the galaxy ... with the help of a friend.
Riveting, every minute.
Inspiring, emotional, humorous, and smart. A very human story, perfectly cast. 10/10!!!
This is total garbage for adults. Feels like it should have been on Saturday night Walt Disney. The state of movie writers today is unfortunate.
One of the most boring stupid movies I have seen. Hated it. So happy when it was over. Don’t go. For 10 year olds and their mums. At least that’s who I heard laughing at the stupid asinine I sight of Gosling.
My husband and I have seen this movie three times and I would have no problem seeing it again. The relationship between Grace and Rocky made me feel hopeful. It was funny, sad, exciting and heartwarming. Great for the whole family!
it was cute but rather lame.
Love this book, love the audiobook, love the movie. Each medium uniquely brings it's own perfection.
You should know going in this is a long movie. With previews, you're going to be in the theatre about three hours. If you're uncomfortable with that, you might want to wait until it is streaming so you could watch it over 2 days. Having said that, I, loved the movie. If you like science-fiction with some humor mixed in, you will enjoy the movie. If you liked Star Trek, Star Wars, and similar tv shows & movies, you will like this. I encourage you to see this. God bless
Just a fun, relaxing, exciting, happy, funny and sad movie. Time flew by.
Spielberg ET style Gosling pulls off alone . Stimulates the imagination and mystery of travel and life existing in the universe . Whether real astronauts ( just returning from around the moon ) ,StarTrek and yes, a teacher rising and actualizing to his potential and challenge inspired by meeting an alien friend . Great ending .
I didn't know what to expect, but the trailer made me think it might be interesting. I thought it was great! Loved the ending! NOT something I was expecting! Haven't figured out if the flashbacks were as he remembered or just to give us the background context, but I really liked it.
Finally a movie where the hero saves humanity
Funny and sad and treats the audience like they have a brain, loved it!
Excellent movie, a thought provoking and moving story about a threat to human life and the space ship sent into the void to solve the problem of why stars are dying.
What else is new… Hollywood pumps out another hero movie where the fate of the world relies on one person to save all. If you want to start doing something useful, make movies that actually touch on something mildly realistic and relatable to everyday life, instead of this fantasy of one person fixes everything . America just doesn’t get it.
Good plot, and a heartwarming performance by Ryan Gosling. Overall a good movie for teenagers and adults alike. (Younger children will not understand what's going on.) Refreshingly free of profanity and other ickiness. My only complaint: It was too long!!! My knees were killing me by the end.
Entertaining! Suspenseful! Good acting! Best movie I have seen in theater in a long time!
Absolutely painfully wonderful and not predictable. Extra short so amazing. The problem is it is not completely predictable. It is like watching a 2 1/2 hour trailer. Astronaut wants to save planet. Meets alien in space. Same goal. They become friends and help each other. The end. 2 1/2 trailer movie. * People who rate this high, like ridiculously simplistic predictable movies, or, they took a child. If you are taking a child. Fine. Just watch E. T. again. E. T. is actually good. People leaving the theatre looked exhausted from length boredom, packed and nobody said a word, likely half asleep. You won't believe this, having said this, but it doesn't take much to make me happy as a movie. Just so, so long and boring
i love watching paint dry
This movie had me from the first 5 minutes. I love all genres of movies, and this one had several of them in it. It's taken from a fantastic book and translated beautifully to the screen. I feel sorry for those people who claimed it was 'boring', clearly they have been numbed by the non-stop screaming action special effects Sci-Fi movies of the last few years with very little character development and even less believability. This movie has so much heart, intelligence, action, humor, great science fiction concepts, and messaging. Best thing Ryan Gosling's done. People should definitely read the book too. It does fill in some blanks....overall a must see! AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE
Terrific movie. If you see this flick and don't cry at least a couple of times.....then you gotta think your EI meter is running pretty low. Incredibly stupid comments from some viewers who think movies like John Wick crap are actually worthwhile.
It’s like watching paint dry…
This was a fun movie with adventure, humor, interesting scenes and emotional moments. Some situations they could have taken it in another direction if the purpose wasn’t just fun entertainment. Don’t take it too seriously, that’s my kind of movie. Clean entertainment and likable actors.
Beautifully done. Loved it. Don't left the 1 stars scare you off, they're all wrong. If you loved E.T. all those years ago you'll love this.
We enjoyed this movie a lot. One of the few movies that actually did a really good job of following the book.
Was expecting so much more.....
This movie is for a 5 years old child, I actually slept in the theater, while waiting boring.
I felt that the first hour was a little slow and at times a little boring. However, the last 90 minutes were quite good and the ending was the absolute BEST!! Loved Ryan Gosling's "little buddy"!
Absolutely painfully boring and predictable. Extra long so agonizing. The problem is it is completely predictable. It is like watching a 2 1/2 hour trailer. Astronaut wants to save planet. Meets alien in space. Same goal. They become friends and help each other. Good watch
Special effects and music were best features. Science poorly explained and quickly passed over to get to the sentimental stuff. Agree with others basically boring and predictable.
Ryan Gosling did a great job on his part. The scenery, special effects, and music, were very well done. I liked the way they did the story line looking back to the beginning and then to the present to understand the plot better. It was nice to see the friendship between two very different individuals deepen in the way that it did; and what they were willing to give for each other. And the very end put a big smile on my face. P.S. I very much appreciated the absence of vulgar language throughout this movie like most of the movies have now days.
Half-way into this boring movie, I decided to leave, then I decided that since I paid a lot for IMAX EXP. I'd stay and see it thru. Left, feeling cheated out of entertainment and a sense of disappointment that Ryan Gosling would lower himself to be in this crap movie that pretends to be of any value at all worth seeing. I found it boring, and the script written by a DEI idiot.
Ryan Gosling gives a good performance, given the vapid script. Special effects are unable to make up for the flimsy story that defies logic. Many alligators come over the transom...one small example is the inexplicable manner in which full communication is established with Ryan's space buddy Rock. The science is all sketchy. Sad.
The neg reviewers are a joke. Worse movie you've seen? Not transformers? Or Lost in Translation? If you have even a mild enjoyment of sci-fi, you'll enjoy the movie. If you loved the book, you'll enjoy the movie. It's a closer adaptation than the Martian was and the effects are almost entirely practical. If your biggest issue is that a person in low-gravity space doesn't use a comb, you have bigger problems than this movie.
I loved every bit of Hail Mary. Great acting, story and everything. I do not care for the theater (noisy others, seat being kicked), but I am so glad that I saw this on the Big Screen
Serious subject matters which could be challenging to some young adults, teens are raised including the end of the world, death, suicide, forced compliance by government employees of an unwanted medical shot, stuck in space, unable to return to home. Otherwise, a sort of family friendly sometimes light-hearted movie: no swear words, no nudity, no sex, no drugs (except an unbelievable brief mention by an astronaut of a concoction of sorts she wishes to die from). Long movie. I like Ryan Gosling, the main actor, who also serves as a producer of the movie. Hollywood still must be doing something right if they can make movie goers cry over a rock. Good ending.
Just so you complainers know. There was no AI or computer CGI used at all not even once all the money was spent for real sets for a real experience. Too bad you can’t appreciate.
First of all too long and frankly because of that became boring. Lots of special effects like many sci-fi movies. Nothing that special though. Ryan did a good job given the material he was given. If I knew then what I know now….I would not have gone to the movie. Should have looked at the trailer.
I will say that I’m not a science fiction movie lover, but this was a story of connection and friendship. It delivered in that regard. Ryan Gosling was amazing, as was his costar. I just loved it.
Same plot twist as Adam Sandler space movie from last year. Too long.
